Our History Building Custom & Semi-Custom Homes
Our founders, Jim and Jason Stephen, started Gateway Construction in 2001 to build homes, multi-family buildings and more, all distinguished by quality craftsmanship. Over two decades and hundreds of homes, apartment buildings and commercial projects have made us one of the largest and most respected construction companies in Wyoming.

Looking for a newly constructed home that’s move-in ready? We have several homes already built that are currently available in our communities in Cheyenne, Wyoming. If you want to move into your dream home sooner rather than later, we can help you select one of our newly constructed homes. We may use standard floor plans but that doesn’t mean each home isn’t brimming with its own unique charm and character. We change up the finishes, colors and styles to make each home stand out and feel fresh and modern.
With various floor plans, styles and finishes to choose from, each home has between three and five bedrooms and ranges from 1,000 square feet to 5,000+ square feet. You can select a home with a two-, three- or four-car garage at various price points as well. We have already-built homes ready for you and your family in Saddle Ridge, Sweetgrass, Whispering Hills and Whitney Ranch.

Custom Homes
Do you want a home that’s all your own, completely customized to your family’s needs? We’re happy to build a custom or semi-custom home for you. We provide an exceptional level of service that includes attentive, individualized care throughout the entire building process.
Each home construction project we take on goes through five phases of development: getting started, framing and outlining, interior design, finishing up, and the closing and warranty.
Getting Started
The first step in building your new custom home with us is choosing the right community for your family. With the help of a realtor, you can choose the build site that best suits you. Then one of our associates will help you tailor a floor plan to match your needs, or develop a custom plan from scratch. After choosing a floor plan, you secure a loan approval, then meet with your project manager to go over modifications and do a final review before building starts.
Framing & Outlining
We’ll break ground on your new home once we have the proper permits, and you’ll get to see the layout of your home after we’ve laid the foundation. We then start framing to construct the walls, install plumbing and, finally, install the locations of your home’s phone and cable outlets.
Interior Design
For most people, this is the fun part! Once your home passes an energy inspection and drywall goes up, we’ll start working on the interior features like doors, cabinets, baseboards and trim. You’ll also get to see your home’s lighting, carpeting and other details. This is when your custom home really starts to look like your space.
Finishing Up
During this phase, we take care of finishing touches like paint touchups, landscaping and professional cleaning. We will also conduct thorough inspections and make any necessary improvements to ensure your home is move-in ready.
Home Orientation, Closing & Warranty
Shortly before your move-in date, you’ll participate in a walkthrough of your new home so you can learn where everything is and how it all works. During this walkthrough, you can ask as many questions as you want and we can address any concerns about finishing touches. Our team does a final quality check, the closing and settlement are completed and you can move in!

Floor Plans for New Home Construction
We have floor plans to suit every family and lifestyle. With varying layouts and square footage to choose from, we can plan the best blueprint for your new home. Although we have many floor plans available, we don’t want you to think you’re locked into certain features or design choices — it’s still your custom home! We’re just giving you a base to work from.
From the initial stages of discussing your floor plan to the final finishing touches, we value frequent communication with all of our clients. Nothing is more important to us than ensuring you’re up-to-date on your home’s building process and that you fully understand what’s going on.
Our staff members will always make themselves available to answer your questions so you’re not left in the dark about any construction details. We will have regular planning sessions to identify specifications, map out a timeline and ensure we are all on the same page.
