At Gateway Construction, our mission is simple. We are committed to building your future today! By building quality custom homes, we help families realize their dreams. We can give you a place to make memories, grow, and feel safe and comfortable too. By integrating our core values with proven building practices, Gateway Construction is reshaping residential construction in southeast Wyoming.
Our founders, Jim and Jason Stephen, started Gateway Construction in 2001 to build homes, multi-family buildings and more, all distinguished by quality craftsmanship. Over two decades and hundreds of homes, apartment buildings and commercial projects have made us one of the largest and most respected construction companies in Wyoming.
No matter the project we’re working on, our goal is always to exceed your expectations. We will pay close attention to every part of the building process to ensure your experience is positive, from the quality of our work to the open communication with our team. Our commitment to integrity, friendliness, professionalism and transparency are what make clients choose Gateway for custom homes, semi-custom homes and multi-family construction.
Looking for a newly constructed home that’s move-in ready? We have several homes already built that are currently available in our communities in Cheyenne, Wyoming. If you want to move into your dream home sooner rather than later, we can help you select one of our newly constructed homes. We may use standard floor plans but that doesn’t mean each home isn’t brimming with its own unique charm and character. We change up the finishes, colors and styles to make each home stand out and feel fresh and modern.
With various floor plans, styles and finishes to choose from, each home has between three and five bedrooms and ranges from 1,000 square feet to 5,000+ square feet. You can select a home with a two-, three- or four-car garage at various price points as well. We have already-built homes ready for you and your family in Saddle Ridge, Sweetgrass, Whispering Hills and Whitney Ranch.
We instill high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail into each new build we work on, whether it’s a custom home, semi-custom home or model home. When you choose to purchase a house from Gateway, you’ll be able to tell the difference in quality.
The best thing about our available homes is that you can take a look at them to inspire design decisions in a custom home! That’s exactly what we build our model homes for. We know not everyone has the best eye for colors or finishes, but looking at our already-built houses can give you a glimpse of what’s possible and spark your imagination.
We’d be happy to speak with you about our available homes or have you stop by one of our model homes to take a look at what’s possible with our floor plans.
Do you want a home that’s all your own, completely customized to your family’s needs? We’re happy to build a custom or semi-custom home for you. We provide an exceptional level of service that includes attentive, individualized care throughout the entire building process.
Each home construction project we take on goes through five phases of development: getting started, framing and outlining, interior design, finishing up, and the closing and warranty.
The first step in building your new custom home with us is choosing the right community for your family. With the help of a realtor, you can choose the build site that best suits you. Then one of our associates will help you tailor a floor plan to match your needs, or develop a custom plan from scratch. After choosing a floor plan, you secure a loan approval, then meet with your project manager to go over modifications and do a final review before building starts.
We’ll break ground on your new home once we have the proper permits, and you’ll get to see the layout of your home after we’ve laid the foundation. We then start framing to construct the walls, install plumbing and, finally, install the locations of your home’s phone and cable outlets.
For most people, this is the fun part! Once your home passes an energy inspection and drywall goes up, we’ll start working on the interior features like doors, cabinets, baseboards and trim. You’ll also get to see your home’s lighting, carpeting and other details. This is when your custom home really starts to look like your space.
During this phase, we take care of finishing touches like paint touchups, landscaping and professional cleaning. We will also conduct thorough inspections and make any necessary improvements to ensure your home is move-in ready.
Shortly before your move-in date, you’ll participate in a walkthrough of your new home so you can learn where everything is and how it all works. During this walkthrough, you can ask as many questions as you want and we can address any concerns about finishing touches. Our team does a final quality check, the closing and settlement are completed and you can move in!
Gateway Construction can make your dream home a reality. With our thorough, transparent and communicative process, you’ll be kept informed about the progress of your custom home at every step. There’s nothing more exciting than watching your dream home come to life!
We have floor plans to suit every family and lifestyle. With varying layouts and square footage to choose from, we can plan the best blueprint for your new home. Although we have many floor plans available, we don’t want you to think you’re locked into certain features or design choices — it’s still your custom home! We’re just giving you a base to work from.
From the initial stages of discussing your floor plan to the final finishing touches, we value frequent communication with all of our clients. Nothing is more important to us than ensuring you’re up-to-date on your home’s building process and that you fully understand what’s going on.
Our staff members will always make themselves available to answer your questions so you’re not left in the dark about any construction details. We will have regular planning sessions to identify specifications, map out a timeline and ensure we are all on the same page.
Commitment and professionalism are two of our core values, so we strive to make the process as painless as possible. Planning your dream home shouldn’t be a chore, it should be fun! Gateway’s professional team members will take care of the details to minimize any stress you might feel about your new home.
We ensure that we provide you with ample time to approve all plans, specifications and selections. Your job is to dream big and tell us what you want your home to look like; our job is to bring it to life.
Our commitment includes assisting you with any problems during construction and after move-in. We won’t leave you hanging once we hand over the keys. We want your home to be absolutely perfect for you, so we have a warranty manager on staff to resolve issues that might arise.
Choosing a new home isn’t just about what it looks like on the inside. Location matters too. You want your home to be in a friendly neighborhood where you can raise your family with good access to schools and public services. We understand the importance of your home’s location, which is why Gateway builds in the most welcoming and charming communities in Cheyenne and surrounding areas. Each of our four current communities has a distinct charm that makes it a lovely place to call home.
Our Saddle Ridge community in east Cheyenne is an ideal place to raise a family and stay connected to nearby shopping, restaurants and green spaces. This established and fast-growing neighborhood has numerous walking paths and parks, so you and your family can get plenty of fresh air and enjoy outdoor recreation without having to go far from home.
If you’re looking for fresh air, open spaces and clean living just west of Cheyenne, then Whispering Hills just might be the community for you. Property owners in this neighborhood have room to roam on five- to 10-acre ranchettes where they can enjoy a quiet lifestyle — with the convenience of the city just a quick 15-minute drive away.
Want to live in a sprawling community with gorgeous views and ample open space? Our Sweetgrass community, located at the top of the Rocky Mountain Front Range, combines all the convenience of city living with small-town sensibilities. This 2,300-acre neighborhood connects to the Cheyenne Greenway and has Wyoming’s largest community college across the street.
Our Whitney Ranch neighborhood was designed to preserve beautiful, wide-open spaces while fostering a strong sense of community. If country living and getting to know your neighbors is what you’re after, you’ll find it at Whitney Ranch, while still having close access to all of Cheyenne's best amenities.

It’s your property, after all, and it should reflect your mission, values and goals.
Of course, as experienced construction professionals, we’re also able to provide unparalleled advice and guidance when it comes to your commercial project. We’ll help you create a space that you’re proud to show off to your customers, members or tenants.
Cheyenne combines all the perks of city living with the charm of the Old West. It’s the perfect place for couples, families or single professionals. The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is a local favorite destination, featuring specialty landscapes and a solar greenhouse.
